Week of Rage: OpenBoR Showcase – Mortal Kombat Unlimited

Midway has wrestled with the Mortal Kombat series for some time now. It’s definitely a rollercoaster franchise as it falls to new lows and attempts to climb back to the highs of Mortal Kombat II. The developer even tried to create a spin-off game in the style Streets of Rage entitled Shaolin Monks and you know what, it wasn’t half bad either. Well played.

Today’s OpenBoR showcase looks at a homebrew attempt at taking the gory beat-em-up into a side scrolling format. Mortal Kombat Unlimted by developer Magggas is a worthy attempt, with nice visuals that hark back to Mortal Kombat II and III, tons of gore and a host of new enemies and stages.

I also like the random messages that pop up in the bottom left corner, it’s a bit like the ‘TOASTY’ message from Ed Boon in the second game. Classic touch!

You can download Mortal Kombat Unlimited here via Lavalit. Enjoy! 🙂
